Tobacco smoke control requires Carbon - many pounds of it in a deep carbon bed.

Chemicals and gases in tobacco smoke must be in contact with carbon long enough to be adsorbed. The carbon bed must have depth.

Running your smoke control air purifier on high speed is a mistake. Smoky air will flow through the carbon filter too fast for proper adsorption. High speed works for particle capture but not gases and chemicals.

Run you air purifier on medium speed instead.

You also need particle filters to capture airborne smoke particles and fine ash.

Tar-trapping pre-filters are often available as well.
